Updated: Mar 8

If you’re considering getting Scalp Micropigmentation to help with hair loss, it’s important to know about the potential contraindications. In other words, there are certain conditions which may make SMP unsuitable for you. It’s always best to consult with a trained professional before making any decisions, but here is a list of the most common contraindications:

  • Prone to keloid scarring

  • Pregnant

  • If you are on blood thinners

  • Psoriasis or eczema on the scalp

  • Severe dry skin on the scalp

  • Sunburn on the scalp

  • Hemophilia

  • Immune system diseases

  • Warts in treatment area

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Temporary alopecia - Hair may regrow causing areas to look darker than others

  • Epilepsy

  • Severe acne in treatment area

  • In some cases, Vitiligo

  • Chemotherapy within the last year or coming up in the next 4 weeks

  • Has had laser removal in the last 90 days

  • If you have had a previous allergic reaction to tattoo ink

If any of the contraindications listed above apply to you, SMP may not be the right treatment for you. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us or organise a consultation with us in our Melbourne studio and we will be happy to help you determine if SMP is right for you.
